Postcards from Koontz Lake!

Here's photos from our Memorial Day weekend at Koontz Lake, Indiana.

Grandma firmly believes that the saying from Field of Dreams is true: "If you build it, they will come." She bought this playhouse about 2 years ago. She initially denied that she bought it in anticipation of grandchildren that she didn't have yet. She just claimed that it was better than buying an ugly old shed -- which is true, of course. She just wouldn't cop to the anticipating grandkids part back then. She just said it would be fun if there were ever "kids" around the cabin. Hummm....whose kids you might ask? Exactly.

Let's see....I can do this.....just turn that big round thing this way, then that way. What's the big deal?!?

Jackson's first boat ride.

Jackson's first fish.

Whoah...what a weekend.

Big Talker

He gets the gift of gab from his Grandma. All I know is that we had better not teach him to use the phone since he's got her talking gene...........unless we don't care about living in a cardboard box because the phone bill is so high.

Entertainer

Do you think he looks more like Elton John or Billy Joel on his "piano"? Fats Domino then?

Here's some video from Jackson's first time on the piano. I swear...you can see/hear the wheels turning in his head as he tries to figure out what to do and how to do it.

P.S. Thanks for letting me borrow your piano Langston!

Ready for Summer

He's got his babseball uniform on and he's all ready for summer. If only he knew how to throw, catch, or hit....the Cubs sure could use the help.

Elusive Thumb

Jackson has been trying to find his thumb for weeks now. He can't quite seem to get it done though. He keeps it tucked into the plam of his hand, so all he can find to suck on are his fingers......which he varies sucking on. Sometimes its two fingers, sometimes its three. Maybe it depends on his mood? Here he opted for three of them. I've never seen him sucking his pinky though. Pinky hater.

Macarena

Doesn't Jackson know that the Macarena was SO last week?

Diff'rent Strokes

What You Talkin' 'Bout, Willis?

In Living Color

For his next trick, Jackson will be working on snapping in a "Z formation".

Slap Me Silly!

The next time I think about posting about how well Jackson is sleeping, eating, sitting-up, or whatever, smack me! Just don't all line up at once.

Sleeping

Okay, since it has been 4 straight days, I feel comfortable putting this out there in the cosmos without it coming back to bite me in the butt....
Jackson has been sleeping WONDERFULLY....like so well that I wonder if he has grown into some sleeping disorder or something. Here is an account of his last 4 nights' blocks of sleep, without any noticible interruption: 7, 8, 9, 8.5 hours. Is that great or what? I don't know if it is just his age, his confort level with his home and crib now, the rice cereal, or his inability to take naps of any significiant length during the day, but Mommy and Daddy are certainly not complaining about this recent turn of events. Now I just hope that putting this out there doesn't mean that he will become a terror for the next 4 nights....I'll keep you posted.

A Day Without Mommy

Jackson spent the day away from me all day yesterday because I was sick as a dog with food poisoning and I was in no shape or mindset to be caring for a 10 week old. (He's 10 weeks today!). So Jackson's Daddy took care of him by taking him to daycare and picking him up. Then Jackson spent some time with his Mammaw at her house while Daddy went to an after work meeting that he couldn't miss. Jackson and I finally got a short bit of time together late at night when I was feeling well enough to feed him and put him to bed. Food poisoning stinks!

He Didn't Cry When We Left Him ....

.....for his first day of daycare.....he only cried when Mommy came to pick him up and take him home!! Is he trying to tell us something? According to the daycare workers, Jackson did well at his first day...although I don't know what an infant actually has to do in order to qualify as having a "bad" first day.

Here he is at home, all excited and (apparently) quite sure of himself for his first day of "school".

Here he is in a bouncer at daycare during his first day.
